With iMovie, iTunes and iTools, the new iBook is designed to work and play with your digital tools and toys. Fact is, the iBook adds fun-filled new dimensions to your MP3 player, music CD collection, digital camera, DV camcorder and personal digital assistant. Your iBook is right there at the center of it.
Enhanced performance
Turbocharged with a 500MHz PowerPC G3 processor and 256K on-chip cache running at full processor speed, the new iBook packs a tremendous punch. And it ships with the ATI RAGE Mobility 128 graphics accelerator with 8MB of SDRAM and AGP 2X support for eye-popping 3D graphics.
You can choose an iBook with a CD-ROM drive, a DVD-ROM drive for watching DVD movies, a CD-RW drive to create your own music CDs or a Combo drive which combines the capabilities of CD-RW and DVD playback. The iBook with CD-ROM drive ships with 64MB of SDRAM, and the iBook with DVD-ROM, CD-RW and Combo drives ships with 128MB. All models are expandable, so you can add up to 512MB of RAM.
The iBook features a 10GB Ultra ATA hard disk drive, and you can upgrade to an optional 20-gigabyte hard drive (to make more space for your movies) through the online Apple Store. All models feature a 400Mbps FireWire port, two USB ports, a new RGB and composite video output port (for video mirroring on an external display) and an AV port that lets you show your movies and presentations to best effect on a big-screen TV (just add an optional Apple AV Cable).
The iBook sports a brilliant TFT XGA active-matrix display with razor-sharp 1024-by-768 pixel resolution, so you'll see your movies and digital images in millions of colors. And for special games and applications that are optimized for 800-by-600 or 640-by-480 pixel resolutions, the iBook display scales down beautifully, again with millions of colors.
Movies, music & memories
The iBook lets you make your own movies - and show them anywhere. It lets you create your own music CDs and provides CD music conversion to MP3 files. It makes a dandy photo album, with space to spare for the thousands of images you've captured with your digital camera. And it gets you on the Internet in record time - wirelessly, if you prefer. What's more, with up to five hours of play-time provided by its lithium-ion battery, chances are your iBook won't need recharging before you do.
The new iBook comes with tons of cool software. For starters, there's iTunes. This easy-to-use software lets you convert (or "rip") the songs on your music CDs to MP3 format, compressing CD-quality audio files to about a tenth of their original size with very little loss in audible quality, simply by clicking a button. These significantly smaller file sizes enable you to store many songs on your MP3 player and your iBook hard disk drive.
